Real-Time Parking Availability

Finding a parking space for trucks is set to become more digital and easier. To make this possible, BALM and Toll Collect are now providing data. Brabender is currently testing the integration.

In July 2025, the Federal Ministry of Transport, together with Toll Collect, launched the Parking Space Information Service (SID). The system delivers real-time data on the occupancy of truck parking spaces. Currently, 50% of the total 1,900 public rest areas are connected. By the end of the year, all public parking facilities are expected to be covered. In 2026, private truck parking areas will gradually be added.

In a press release from BALM on July 3, 2025, Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder stated:

“Our logistics professionals do a great job every day. For that, they also need sufficient breaks and safe parking spaces. With the Parking Space Information Service, we will in future optimize the use of existing truck parking areas and create more transparency through digital technology.”

The information is available via the federal government’s “Mobilithek” platform almost in real time. Companies that register as SID partners can access the data. Brabender is currently testing data transfer and data quality for a potential interface with the BRABENDER logistic suite.

“We welcome this initiative from the federal government, because data needs to flow,” says Managing Director Thomas Brabender. “The more, the better. Only then can transport companies fully utilize their resources while keeping stress for drivers to a minimum.”

The occupancy information can enhance the data base in the Transport Management System. Parking data from various sources already supports route planning for dispatchers and, via the Driver Companion App, helps make everyday life easier for professional drivers.
